The Birth Of My Dance

Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and Glorify your Father which is in heaven.

A Divine Calling

On Saturday, September 30, 2000, I attended a wedding reception where a group of young girls performed a dance in honor of the bride and groom. What seemed like a simple celebration became a profound spiritual awakening for me. As I watched, I distinctly heard the voice of God say, “That’s you!” At that moment, something stirred deep within me. Moved by the performance, I immediately approached the bride—one of my dearest friends, who would later become my ministry partner—and declared, “I want to dance! If they can do that, so can I.” With a knowing smile, she affirmed, “Yes, you can dance.” Unbeknownst to me, that
moment marked the beginning of a divinely orchestrated journey—the birth of my dance ministry.

God had a plan and purpose for my life, and dance was at the heart of it. As I embarked on this journey, He began revealing specific instructions about dance and ministry. At the time, I had no idea that He was preparing me for something far greater than I could imagine.

The first step in this journey came unexpectedly during a Christmas rehearsal at New Piney Grove Missionary
Baptist Church. A group of young girls, full of energy and laughter, gathered in preparation for the program.
I felt a sudden prompting in my spirit to choreograph a Christmas dance for them. What I assumed was just
a fun addition to the program turned out to be a transformative experience. The performance touched
hearts, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.

The following year, during another Christmas rehearsal, I again felt the urge to choreograph a dance. This
time, it was different—the call became clearer. Pastor Rowland approached me on multiple occasions,
encouraging me to start a dance ministry. Initially, I dismissed the idea, unsure of my ability to lead such an
endeavor. However, when he mentioned it a second time, I knew it was time to say yes. Thus, the dance ministry at New Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church was born, and I stepped into the role of Dance Leader.  Despite my initial uncertainties, God reassured me: “If you follow and trust Me, I will lead you. I will bless you and pour My Anointing Power in and through you. This ministry will flourish. If you trust Me, you will grow spiritually through this ministry that I have prepared
for you. Membership will increase, dancers will perform with Anointing, and all who witness the dance will be blessed. Other gifts within this ministry will also be awakened.”

Although the responsibility felt overwhelming, I held onto God’s promise. His Word reminded me not to fear,
for He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
True to His Word, the ministry flourished. What began with just 12 young girls grew into a thriving dance
ministry with over 80 members, including children, pre-teens, teens, young adults, adults, men, and senior
dancers. As the ministry expanded, so did the presence of God’s Anointing among us.
Beyond movement, this ministry became a place of spiritual growth. We incorporated the study of God’s
Word into our preparation, ensuring that every song selection carried a message rooted in Scripture. This
practice led to a deeper connection with God, igniting a powerful awakening among the dancers.

Through this experience, I gained a profound revelation: God’s ministry must be conducted with order and intention. He calls His leaders to guide with wisdom, discipline, and a heart fully yielded to Him. When we submit to His direction, He equips us with everything needed to lead His people in a way that glorifies Him.
God continues to move through this dance ministry, using it as a vessel for transformation, healing, and spiritual revival. What began as a simple desire to dance became a powerful testament to God’s purpose and divine orchestration. To Him be the glory!
